Area Description
Veysonnaz is a small and charming village nestled in the Valais canton, situated on a slope above Sion. The canton of Valais will delight sun lovers as the region boasts over 300 days of sun a year (allegedly more than the French Riviera!) Les 4 Vallées is set in a unique micro-climate offering summer visitors balmy temperatures of 25 - 35°C with a cooling alpine breeze - an ideal temperature for sunbathing and la dolce far niente! Many people overlook the Swiss Alps as a summer destination. Connoisseurs, however, recognise the beauty and diversity of the Alps in the non-winter months and often describe the mountains as being at their most breathtaking when they are verdant and lush. Autumn on the other hand is a technicolour of yellow, orange and red hues - quite different from the white winter wonderland most people envisage.
The dynamic 4 Valley ski region in Switzerland. Throughout the winter, the 4 Valleys is the largest ski area in Switzerland and also one of the largest in Europe, boasting over a 100 lifts and 400km of interlinked piste connecting 9 resorts – Verbier, La Tzoumaz, Siviez, Nendaz, Veysonnaz, Mayens de L’Ours, Thyon, Les Collons and Les Masses. Veyonnaz itself has 10 lifts (2 cable cars, 8 téléskis) and 10 pistes.
For those in search of a little culture, Switzerland's oldest town, Sion, is a mere 13kms away and offers historians exciting medieval tales set in the Valère and Tourbillon Hills, ancient chateaux, churches and museums. The Valaisans have a multitude of local traditions and festivals which take place throughout the spring and summer months: the famous Combat des Reines (a natural cow fight) is a memorable and enchanting experience. From ancient hamlets, authentic alpine villages, and Roman towns like Martigny to the dazzling lake-side Montreux, made famous by the Jazz festival, those wishing to explore further than Veysonnaz have a truly diverse and rich region at their fingertips!
For outdoor enthusiasts who seek a little more adventure, you will be spoilt for choice throughout the summer. Mountain biking on the hundreds of marked trails, hiking, rock-climbing, mountaineering, trekking along the ancient picturesque irrigation systems - "les bisses" - even escorted by a donkey!, paragliding, parachuting, tennis, archery, picnicking by glacier lakes, dipping into the natural thermal hot springs, rafting, canoeing, world class golf in multiple local courses including Crans Montana, bungee-jumping, quad biking, fruit-picking, wine tours... and plenty more. Veysonnaz is a great place to practice yoga, overlooking the Rhone Valley - a truly idyllic spot to stretch, tone and meditate to bird song and the gentle hum of cow bells.
Veysonnaz still retains its small charming village feel and does not have the decadent nightlife of its bigger sister Verbier. Veysonnaz has a selection of facilities including bars, cafes, restaurants and a wellness centre and nightclub. The pick of the bunch, ‘Les Caboulis’, a charming alpine restaurant, set up at the top of the village next to the main run which returns its guests to Veysonnaz. A beautiful example of the typical Swiss chocolate box eatery, serving a mouth-watering and sumptuous array of local Valaisian dishes.
Accessibility for Veysonnaz is not a problem as Sion, Switzerland's oldest town is a mere 13km away and has its own airport. Also the most common flight route from Geneva makes a transfer to resort in less than two hours. For those in search of a little culture, the Valaisian capital of Sion offers historians exciting medieval tales set in the Valère and Tourbillon Hills, ancient chateaux, churches and museums.
