Area Description
St Moritz is the embodiment of Swiss chic, and has been so since the resort’s beginnings in 1854. Chic, elegant and exclusive with a pronouncedly cosmopolitan ambiance it is situated at 5624 ft (1856 m) above sea level, in the middle of the lake dotted landscape of the Upper Engadine. This fashionable hideaway of the A-list, St. Moritz itself has become a point of attraction for many prestigious labels throughout the world. As a result, many of them own wonderful shops and boutiques gathered closely together in the heart of the town. St Moritz boasts stylish restaurants and bars, indulge at Reto Mathis’s exclusive restaurant, where it is said that more caviar and truffles are served over lunch than any other restaurant in the world! After lunch why not take a look around the many art galleries and museums that are to be explored.
Summer opens up a paradise of hiking opportunities of, a near infinite choice of trails and routes. Take a cable car from around the area of St. Moritz and access to the Piz Nair, Corvatsch and Diavolezza, three mountain peaks with an altitude of more than 10,000 ft, and to numerous vantage points, such as Corviglia, Signal and Muottas Muragl, opening on breath-taking panoramic views.
Summer activities are endless, some of them include:
* Kitesurfing and Windsurfing at Lake of Silvaplana
* Inline skating - special circuits on the Samedan airport (1.6 miles / 2.5 km), from La Punt to S-chanf (5.4 miles / 8.6 km), in St. Moritz Bad and in other plane areas
* Nordic Walking - ENGADIN/St. Moritz proposes officially marked Nordic walking trails that are grouped into so-called Nordic Parks
* Golfing and Minigolf
* Mountain Biking - On the BIKE TRAIL MAP of the Upper Engadine you can easily find your favoured route
* Tennis – Experience the perfect sand courts it is of course the breathtaking mountain backdrop which is the great asset of the courts
* Sailing - The legendary Maloja wind allows for sailing and windsurfing regattas even in the middle of summer when in other places the wind is in a lull
* Rafting - The Inn is one the best known rivers of Europe. It is very popular especially for its varied white water passage, which offers a varaint for every level of difficulty
* Canyoning - An all day trip down one of the most beautiful gorges in the southern valleys of the Grisons
* Horse riding - Jumping competitions are held here in summer as well as in winter ("Concours Hippique") same as polo tournaments
* Fishing - The Grisons have been known of old for their lakes, rivers and brooks providing rich fishing grounds
* Skeet Shooting - A sport that combines concentration, precision and dexterity. The skeet shooting stand is located in an idillic wood clearing a little ways off from St. Moritz.
